The Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP)
The PGWP is a program under the authority of the Government of Canada, which remains the official reference source at all times.
What is the PGWP?
The Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) is an open work permit allowing graduates from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI), such as LaSalle College, to work in Canada.
The PGWP aims to provide international students with an opportunity to work in Canada after completing their studies.
General Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for the PGWP, you must:
- Have completed a study program at a DLI and meet program requirements.
- Have maintained full-time student status in Canada throughout each term of your program.
- Have completed a program of at least 8 months leading to a diploma or certificate from a post-secondary DLI, such as LaSalle College.
New Requirements (Effective November 1, 2024)
If you apply for the PGWP after November 1, 2024, additional conditions apply:
- Language skills: Provide proof of English or French proficiency with a level 5 according to the CLB or NCLC.
- Field of study: Obtain a diploma in an eligible field of study*.
*Students who applied for a study permit before November 1 are not affected by this new eligibility criterion.
*Revised list as of June 25, 2025.
Field of Study and Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) Eligibility (Updated June 25, 2025)
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has updated the eligibility criteria for fields of study that qualify for the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP). These changes came into effect on June 25, 2025, and aim to revise certain PGWP eligibility requirements. The list of programs (or specializations) on our website reflects these updates and includes those that meet the new PGWP criteria. With training programs aligned to market needs, LaSalle College remains a leading designated learning institution in Québec.
