If you've ever felt the pull to help others, to understand people deeply, and to be part of real change in your community, the Special Care Counselling (SCC) program might just be the life path you've been searching for.

This transformative program equips students with the knowledge, skills, and hands-on experience needed to support individuals of all ages facing challenges such as physical disabilities, intellectual differences, emotional struggles, or mental health issues. Whether you're helping a child reintegrate into school, supporting a senior through cognitive decline, or working with newcomers adjusting to a new culture, you'll become an essential part of someone's healing journey.

A Curriculum That Empowers You to Empower Others

The SCC program is built on themes that reflect the realities of the world we live in—and the compassionate support it needs. Students dive into subjects such as:

  • Social and adaptive integration
  • Communication and relationship-building
  • Crisis intervention and emotional regulation
  • Developmental and learning challenges
  • Creating and implementing intervention plans
  • Collaborative, team-based therapeutic practices

More than just theory, these courses encourage introspection and self-awareness, helping you grow not just as a professional, but as a person. You’ll come away with the ability to truly listen, respond empathetically, and build meaningful connections with clients from all walks of life.

Learning by Doing

The SCC program includes three field placements, where you’ll step into real-world environments like schools, community centers, shelters, residential treatment programs, or group homes. These placements allow you to put your knowledge into action—and often lead directly to job offers before you even graduate.

A Launchpad for the Professional World or for Further Studies

Graduates of the program go on to work in a wide variety of settings:

  • Supporting children with special needs in schools and daycares
  • Working in shelters with people facing homelessness, violence, or addiction
  • Assisting immigrants and their families in community centers
  • Helping youth in group homes under youth protection
  • Providing care in day centers or residences for seniors
  • Collaborating with mental health professionals in treatment facilities

There is high demand for Special Care Counselors professionals across Québec, and many students receive job offers during their final year of study. Better yet, the diploma is recognized across Canada, giving you flexibility no matter where your path leads.

The DCS in Special Care Counselling also opens doors for continued studies in fields like Social Work or Therapy, with many graduates choosing to continue their education at university.

Make a Real Impact

If your passion lies in understanding yourself and others, and using that understanding to make a positive difference, then this program is more than an education—it’s a calling.

At its core, the Special Care Counselling program is about building bridges between people and possibilities. It’s about empathy, resilience, and purpose. It's about becoming the person someone needs, when they need it most.
