The 2024 edition of TechWeek once again proved why this event is a must-attend for technology and video game enthusiasts.

The 2024 edition of TechWeek, held from November 18 to 24, once again proved why this event is a must-attend for technology and video game enthusiasts. Over the course of seven days, students, educators, and curious minds delved into the future of technological innovation in Quebec. Here’s a look back at a memorable week.


Inspiring Conferences and Enriching Workshops

TechWeek 2024 brought together renowned industry experts for captivating talks and interactive workshops. Here are some highlights:

  • Monday kicked off with a reflection on the environmental impact of digital technology led by Salima Hassaine and Elisa Schaeffer. The day also explored the potential of data in video game design with Serge Poueme, culminating in an interactive augmented reality workshop facilitated by Abdelhak Fennouh and Jon Yu.
  • Tuesday focused on open-source software with Mourad Sehboub, followed by discussions on quantum innovation in Canada by Julien Chosson. Mohamed Zeroug added a creative twist by linking coding to the art of knitting. The afternoon featured a screening of an inspiring documentary and a rich panel on building networks in tech, moderated by Elisa Schaeffer.
  • Wednesday highlighted diversity and inclusion with a session on neurodivergence and technological creativity, presented by Georgette Lucue Huacho and Elisa Schaeffer. An engaging UX/UI design workshop by Catherine Banville and Justin Penney enriched the day, which ended with a special activity on personalizing and recycling tech accessories.
  • Thursday shifted the focus to careers and technological innovations. Mahboobeh Masoud guided participants through professional opportunities in Canada before introducing language models like ChatGPT. Elisa Schaeffer and her guests discussed the future of Industry 4.0 and the integration of cloud computing. The day concluded with reflections on developing technological talent.


Game Jam: The Grand Finale

The weekend concluded with a thrilling Game Jam! Student teams tackled the challenge of designing a video game from scratch in just three days. The result? Astonishing demos, tested and enjoyed by the public. Participants impressed with their creativity, teamwork, and ability to deliver ambitious projects within a tight timeframe.

The jury, composed of industry professionals, praised the originality and execution of the games presented. Once again, the competition showcased the talent and potential of the students, making Game Jam a true celebration of innovation.
