A hands-on experience in visual merchandising, digital creation and brand storytelling

At LaSalle College, learning also means creating, experimenting and presenting work in real-world contexts. Thanks to the partnership between LaSalle College and Alexis Nihon, Fashion Marketing students have the opportunity to turn their ideas into projects seen by the public, right in the heart of Montréal.

This year, teams of second-semester Fashion Marketing students were invited to imagine digital window displays for Alexis Nihon’s spaces. Their creations are featured on the shopping centre’s Cineplex screens from June to August, giving exceptional visibility to their talent, creativity and understanding of the customer experience.

A student project rooted in industry reality

In the fashion, retail and marketing industries, the ability to create a strong visual experience is an essential skill. This project allows students to apply key concepts related to fashion marketing, visual merchandising and brand communication.

Through the creation of their digital window display, students must consider product presentation, visual composition, atmosphere, messaging, customer experience and the impact of their concept in a real commercial environment. They learn how to move from idea to execution while taking into account a concrete broadcasting context, a target audience and visibility objectives.

This practical approach helps students develop skills directly connected to the job market, including art direction, storytelling, content creation, visual strategy, merchandising, product presentation and creative project management.

Building a portfolio from the first semesters

One of the key benefits of this type of project is that it allows students to create concrete work they can add to their professional portfolio.

For a future Fashion Marketing graduate, a strong portfolio can make all the difference. It helps showcase creativity, concept development, brand image understanding and the ability to work on real projects. The digital window displays created in collaboration with Alexis Nihon become tangible examples of the students’ know-how.

This type of experience can be especially valuable for students who wish to pursue careers in visual merchandising, fashion marketing, brand management, retail, content creation, event coordination, public relations or customer experience.

When fashion meets digital

The 2026 edition of the project features an entirely digital format under the main theme “augmented proximity,” inspired by the idea of “reinvented reality.”

Students were invited to create a bridge between products, human experience and the digital world. Their challenge was to propose a bold, immersive and unconventional reinterpretation of the commercial window display.

This approach reflects the evolution of the fashion and retail sectors, where physical and digital experiences are increasingly connected. Today’s future professionals must be able to think beyond the traditional window display and design visual experiences adapted to new consumer behaviours.
